Evacuating during the COVID-19 Pandemic

If evacuation shelters are opened during a natural disaster, the facilities will be carefully managed and COVID-19 countermeasures will be put in place.
If you need to evacuate your current location, be sure to act quickly.
However, if you are in a safe place, you do not have to evacuate.
Take the necessary precautions in advance so you can evacuate appropriately when the time comes.

First, check the hazard maps to make sure that your home is not in a Potential Flood Risk Zone or Landslide Risk Zone.
Consider sheltering in place if your home is not in an area at risk of storm and flood damage, or if your house is in a Potential Flood Risk Zone but you can shelter safely in your home (e.g. you live on the higher floors of an apartment building).

If you need to evacuate your home, be careful of the following points.
 (1) Consider evacuating to a friend or relative’s house if you can shelter safely.
  (2) Take proper measures to prevent transmission such as wearing a mask, washing your hands and practicing proper cough etiquette.
  (3) In addition to your regular emergency supplies (e.g. water, food, blankets, sanitary supplies, cellphone charger, medicine and prescription notebook), prepare masks and a body thermometer to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
The city government has limited supplies, so please take as much of the following as possible:

    ・ masks or towels
    ・ hand sanitizer and soap
    ・ a body thermometer
    ・ disposable gloves
    ・ indoor footwear
・ warm clothes as the evacuation site will be well ventilated.
(4)Evacuating in your car can be dangerous. Check and establish escape routes and car parks where you will not be at risk of being caught in a flood when evacuating in your car.
