Fukuoka is well on its way to becoming an international city, with numerous Asian exchange activities already under its belt. Asia-Pacific Children’s Convention in Fukuoka, first held in 1989, encourages interaction between the children of the Asia-Pacific region and Fukuoka, and is a unique event with citizens and the private sector at the center. The participants from the first event have already entered adulthood, and are actively involved in cultural exchange in the Asia-Pacific region.
In addition, Asian Month is held every September, with events showcasing Asian culture, art, and academics. In September, there is also the award ceremony for Fukuoka Prize, recognizing individuals or organizations for their outstanding work in preserving and creating unique and diverse cultures of Asia.
There are also local consulates from countries including China and South Korea, as well as the UN-HABITAT Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (Fukuoka). Visitors will find Fukuoka an exciting and hospitable city to live in, and a great place to do business. Great importance must therefore continue to be placed on international exchange in all its forms.
