Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery

Blessed with Natural Resources, Rich Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishery

Fukuoka is working on maximizing its proximity to the consuming areas, increasing local production of high value-added products such as agriculture, forestry, and fishery, industrial stabilization, and developing long-term industry training. Specifically, Fukuoka is actively promoting agricultural, forestry, and fishery products of its local brands, including Hakata Amao, Hakata Scallion, Hakata Tomatoes, Hakata Rice, Fukuoka-shimin Rice, Shiowakame Seaweed and Ebisukaki Oysters, each of which is now quite popular. Apart from brand development, Fukuoka is also increasing the construction of local farmland, forests, and fishing ports.

Fukuoka’s fish market, which earns Fukuoka the name City of Seafood and boasts a transaction volume of 14,000 tons, ranks fifth in Japan. Moreover, its access to the sea makes Fukuoka a gathering spot of Chinese and Korean seafood as well. In the central wholesale market, there is a seafood section where one can taste fresh seafood such as fish and shellfish, and there is also a local products market which sells special local products such as Karashi-mentai (spicy cod roe) and Ichiya-boshi (dried fish).
