更新日: 2008年2月5日

To prevent your child from getting sick

Immunity that has been gifted to the infant from the mother is naturally lost over time, and as the infant grows and ventures outside, they are exposed to infectious diseases. Therefore, it is necessary for your child to develop his/her own immune system to prevent illness. This is where vaccination comes in.
You are advised to understand vaccines correctly, and make sure your child is vaccinated when his/her health is in good condition.

The following table shows information concerning vaccines as of April 1, 2007. For the latest information, please contact the Health Section at the Health and Welfare Center ( Public Health Center) in your ward.

DPT, DT, MR (Measles and Rubella), and Japanese encephalitis are administered at local medical institutions displaying a pink-color plate from Monday to Friday, unless otherwise stated. However, you are advised to check with the medical facility of your choice in advance, because some places require an appointment.
Polio and BCG vaccines are administered at the Health and Welfare Center on a designated date, time, and place. You will be notified of the vaccination schedule for polio through the city newsletters issued on March 15 and September 15, and for BCG, through a mandatory health check up notice for a 4 month-old infant.
In order to receive these vaccinations, children must bring their Maternal and Child Health Handbook and must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian.

Note 1: Even if a child has been vaccinated against, or has been infected with either measles or rubella, they are still able to receive vaccination against the other.
Note 2: A notification from the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare has advised us to refrain from strongly recommending vaccination against Japanese encephalitis. However, the vaccination is available upon request, after a thorough explanation of the advantages and the side effects of the vaccination and obtaining your written consent.

For further information, please contact the Health Section at the Health and Welfare Center ( Public Health Center) of your ward or a relevant medical institution which provides vaccination.
