Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries
The agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector plays a variety of roles, including supplying the residents of the city with fresh foodstuffs and providing them with ample opportunities to come in close contact with nature. Urban agriculture primarily includes vegetables and flowers, and Fukuoka is one of the most productive agricultural areas in the prefecture. Forestry includes the production of cedar, cypress and other lumber, as well as protecting and developing forest resources to preserve water sources, cleanse the atmosphere, prevent forest fires and provide places for relaxation. Both the Genkai Sea and Hakata Bay are rich in fish and shellfish, and the fisheries industry is especially active in marine product processing. Hakata Fishing Port handles the largest amount of marine product out of any fishing port in Japan.
